From Gordon:
We departed from the lower side of Sailor Point heading for Black Mountain around 10am. We stopped at the lookout for a little break along with taking in the breathtaking views. We continued along Sailor Point making a left onto the pavement at SR 19 Texas Hill Rd. We made a left onto the dirt at Onion Valley then a left heading to Black Mountain. We ran into a hunter on a quad just shy of the entrance to a gate that is normally open. He said that the gate was locked and there was a notice painted on a log just before the gate. I drove up a little bit more to where I was able to see the painted log sign. We talked about it a bit on the radio then decided to head back to Onion Valley where they had tables and it was flat.
We enjoyed some great Chilli and company before departing. I know Rich took first place and I am sorry but I did forget who took 2nd and 3rd. I want to say Aurora 2nd and Jim 3rd. Please correct if wrong.
After the Chili, part of the group went home, while others followed Martin to Big Valley Bluff overlook. From there, we negotiated a rinkle where Karin and Tom - in his Big Red Rig with 40 inch tires- got high centered on a hill we had to go over. The rest either went around or made it over after Tom took the top off of it. We aired back up at the Launch Ramp then headed home. It was a great day to be on a trail.
