From Lori:
We met at Ridge Rd (S180) at the dump. We aired down and left the area at 8:20am. It was 37 degrees outside, and very icy. Once we moved onto Henness Pass Road (S309) the ice became wet snow, and the temperature dropped to 32 degrees. With logging operations going on and some of the mines running the road had been scraped on the right-side. Some of us jumped to the left, snowy, side to try and reduce the snow depth. We had Charlie out front going towards FR98, with Gary R. behind him, and then Jim H. They were all hooked together, tugging and pulling, trying to break trail. On the last leg down to FR98, we all where getting stuck and so we turned around.
We turned left on Lafayette Road (84). Charlie moved up front and was getting stuck. Frosty hooked on to Charlie's rig and we tugged while he pulled until we got to Henness Pass Road (S309). We then turned right on Galloway Road (S401) to FR30. This road was also scraped. We turned left for a quick wrinkle that went down to a circle and came back out. We stopped for lunch on Henness Pass Road with the temperature now 40 degrees. At this point, Jeff had to leave the group for home, while the other half took Mountain House Road (S300). Of that group, half (including us) turned left on Sandusky Road.
We followed that down to a creek where a very large tree was down. Using our chainsaws we bucked it, and then winched it off to the side (and off the trail). After crossing the creek, we encountered another couple of downed trees which were dealt with. We met the other half of the group at Forest City, and aired up.
We were all off the trail by 4:30. The road out of Forest City was very icy and slippery.
