From Brandy:
Trail Crew met up around 7:00 to get our rigs ready and be ready to check folks in as they arrived (which is usually really early, but people showed up pretty late this year... same thing happened at Sierra Trek).
Anyway, Karen and Aurora did an awesome job checking people in while the rest of the crew directed traffic, answered questions, programmed radios, etc. Managed to get started pretty much on time. Homer and Reggie hung back to deal with some super late-birds, but after a bit everyone was on trail and moving great!
I encouraged participants to venture “out of the tracks” and embrace the possibility of getting stuck; some individuals initially had reservations about the challenge. However, as several vehicles did find themselves bogged down, this provided the perfect backdrop for teamwork and collaboration.
Groups of participants worked together to recover their rigs with positive encouragement and guidance from an experienced and patient trail crew, utilizing tow straps and shovels while sharing techniques and strategies, and discovering solutions through trial and error. In addition to recovery efforts, participants engaged in discussions about performance in snowy conditions. Insights on tire traction, airing down, and the effectiveness of operating at 6 psi were particularly enlightening. Those who were hesitant at first found significant value in this approach after giving it a try.
Ultimately, the day fostered the development of friendships, the exchange of knowledge, and the enjoyment of a shared off-roading experience in a winter landscape. I did not hear any complaints from even one participant. The weather was great, the snow was great, and everyone had fun, or at least they were not miserable.
Thanks, all! Looking forward to next year.
We should get out and play soon!!
