Good evening all! I hope everyone is enjoying the new year!
I am sad because I couldn’t go with the group yesterday, but got a chance to go up today. I went up to Henness Pass through Camptonville, popped out on Mountain House Rd and continued up. The whole way up, they were doing logging operations, starting just out of Camptonville.
After airing down, I followed the club tracks to the 98 split. I took the 98 and followed tracks up. When I came to the turn around tracks, I still had some good traction so decided to press on. Not very far ahead of that, I started encountering downed trees. I ended up clearing 5 or 6 downed trees and going around many others.
I was in my Toyota and had a friend, Craig, with a 2004 4Runner on 33’s, so when we hit the junction of Heness Pass Rd and 98 we decided to go down.
We ate lunch at the junction and started out to return. Craig had some trouble with the soft snow breaking away to deep water underneath. We pressed on and found a few more downed trees. We cut and moved the larger ones and eventually met up with tracks where we saw the group had hit the cut off back to 98.
There was a lot of water in the tracks and soft snow.
It was a fun day today, but was wishing I got to go with the group! Let’s hope for lower temps and snow levels in the upcoming week!
