From Martin:
Left Williams and headed up toward the proposed Sites Reservoir location and Leesville passing Jerry Brown’s Antelope Valley Ranch. The lower hills were turning golden. Things greened up as we got higher.
There were quite a few people at Indian Valley Reservoir including SxSs and a fiberglass (Manx style) dune buggy group. The lake was full of water this year. However, due to congestion and the time (11:00) we proceeded on to Bartlett Springs where we had lunch and toured the grounds.
This year we returned to a previous route up Twin Valleys Rd and then Youngs Corral Road. Youngs Corral Road was heavily brushed when we last took it before Covid. However, fire in the area has reduced the brush to tolerable. The spring at Young’s Corral was flowing well out of a 3in. pipe; tasted good.
Upon reaching the ridge we found another group of dune buggy’s. We were told that a large tree was down to the north blocking the road . . . then the leader talked with me, ( no tree, just inexperienced drivers and he was turning them around), but he was lost and looking for M10. I told him to follow the ridge North to the M10 and we would take care of the tree.
We descended on Long Slides trail, crossed Bear Creek and headed for camp. At the entrance to camp we found the dune buggy group again, still lost and wanting to get to Clear lake. I sent them on East on M10 to Elk Mountain Rd. We never saw them again.
Camp was delightful. No mosquitos! Morning was cool at 37 degrees.
Sunday we took M10 to Elk Mountain Rd, the north to Lake Pillsbury. Went around the north end of Lake Pillsbury and up to the Eel River and wrinkle as shown in the thumbnail. Had lunch along the river. We continued to wander along to the M3, then to M1 and finally all the way back to pavement and the run to home.
An Excellent Trip!
