Mendocino National Forest Overnighter
Martin is organizing. Please contact him for additional information or to let him know you are interested.
From Martin:
We will meet at the park and ride in Penn Valley (08:30), or you can meet (0930-1000) at the Love’s (Truck Stop) in Williams, CA (On Hwy 20 just before the I-5 interchange). Offramp (actually a left turn off 20) is Marguerite St.
We will have lunch at the Indian Valley Reservoir, which I understand is full this year! After lunch, we'll climb a ridge to the North and go over Goat Mountain, then descend via Long Slides road to Bear Creek. Camp at Bear Creek. Sunday will be a full day to get out and back home
This trip does have lots of driving. If we get sidetracked some vehicles could get fuel challenged, though usually the normal vehicle tanks are sufficient.
More From Martin:
The Mendocino NF ramble is great way to see some of the coast range: Green meadows to snow capped mountains. Mostly gravel roads with a few steep climbs and some rutted roads to negotiate. Some years we find snow at the top of Goat Mountain . . . I don’t think we will this year. Indian Valley reservoir is reportedly full this year and will make a pleasant lunch stop. This is a good trip to get in an overnighter!
